Dialogue with some of the country’s leading experts on the most current issues related to women’s heart disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Intended Audience
Cardiologists, family physicians, internists, obstetricians, gynecologists, residents, fellows, nurses, allied health professionals, medical and nursing students.

Educational Objectives
• Review prevalence of stroke and stroke risk factors in women.
• Review strategies to prevent stroke in women emphasizing optimal treatment of risk factors including diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemias.
• Discuss risk of stroke in women with atrial fibrillation and appropriate indications for anticoagulent therapy.
• Discuss the role that DHHS Office on Women’s Health plays in reducing cardiovascular risk in women.
• Review current understanding of ovarian hormonal influence on the risk of stroke.
• Explore opportunities to identify and treat cardiovascular risk early during reproductive period.
• Discuss role of adequate sleep in cardiovascular disease prevention.
• Review controversy over the role of Patent Foramen Ovale in risk and prevention of stroke.

Physicians: The Rush-Copley Medical Center CME is accredited by the Illinois State Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The Rush-Copley Medical Center CME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
